Throughout thousands of years of Viet Nam’s culture and heroic history, our forefathers have passed down invaluable legacies of traditional crafts and craft villages, which today must be preserved and developed. Among the thousands of craft villages, more than 2,000 have been officially recognized across the country, with half of them showcasing their excellence in the heart of Thang Long – Ha Noi.

These craft villages are not only serve as preservation of cultural and historical values, but they also contribute to the safeguarding of the sustainable material and spiritual livelihoods of the people. Many of these craft villages have now become attractive tourist destinations, drawing visitors from both within and beyond our borders. They play a significant role in promoting the image of Viet Nam – its land, its people – to the international community and contribute to the socio-economic development of their respective localities.

Recognizing the immense role of craft villages, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in collaboration with the Ha Noi People's Committee, organize the “Viet Nam Craft Villages Festival" from October to November of 2023. This festival will encompass practical activities held at various locations throughout Ha Noi.

Notably, from 9th to 12th November, Thang Long Imperial Citadel will host major events of the Festival, featuring the honoring ceremony of 100 skilled artisans and craftsmen, the grand opening ceremony, and an international exhibition introducing craft products and those under the One Commune One Product (OCOP) programme.

This event offers a genuine opportunity to create new perceptions on crafts and craft villages, ignite strong internal and external resources, as well as kindle the love for traditional crafts and craft villages among the people. It aims to stimulate business connections and international cooperation in the conservation and development of craft villages, all with the goal of "Connecting Potential, Enhancing Value, and Ensuring Sustainable Development." This event will harness the essence of Vietnamese craft villages in the current era of digitalization and international integration. It is also a practical celebration of the 78th anniversary of the traditional day of Viet Nam's Agriculture sector (November 14th, 1945 - November 14th, 2023) and the 69th anniversary of the Ha Noi’s Liberation Day (October 10th, 1954 - October 10th, 2023).
